This morning the first message I received was from someone I love dearly. I treasure the relationships that I have made over the years with some exceptional young women that have worked for me. They consider me a mentor and I love hearing that I have made a difference in their lives.
Seeing her name on the message brightened my morning immediately and then as I read her message I shed some tears. She was letting me know that her Mother had been diagnosed with a form of cancer that is very difficult to treat and her one statement, “that it almost ripped her heart out” when she heard, was heart breaking for me to hear.
Although her Mom doesn’t have Breast Cancer, it hit home that so many people are hit with this dreadful disease, and it is not only the people who have the Cancer, but also those they love who are affected. I know that watching my family as they have waiting for my results the past few weeks has been harder for me than for me having to deal with the unknown. You don’t want your loved ones to hurt.
This wonderful young woman wrote me a message over a year ago and I kept the message. She wanted me to meet up with her but realized that “I was busy”. I am ashamed to say that I never did get to see her personally although we have kept in touch. She then said that she often thinks that if her Mom was gone who would she look to as a Mother and she thought of me. I was touched at the time and I am still touched deeply by her words.
She also told me that she has been reading my blogs and it has been keeping her positive. I just pray that even if it is in a small way I can make a difference.
So to all of those dealing with loved ones that have this dreaded disease keep strong and I will pray for you. And I will so try to not put off seeing those who are so important to me!

Selling is like Golfing?
Personally, I think Golf is the most difficult and challenging sport there is to play. No matter what, you never get it perfect and just when you hit that fantastic shot to bring you back again, well, you lose your game.
I am not a great golfer, in fact I wouldn’t even consider myself a good golfer but I do enjoy the game. I enjoy the personal challenge. The fact that, no matter what, I will never be perfect and that this game will challenge me mentally and physically every step of the way. I actually feel the same way about selling.

Applying Words of Wisdom from John Wooden
Everytime I have a plan of what I am going to post something happens that gives me inspiration and I change my mind.
Coach John Wooden passed away at the age of 99 and left a legacy. His legacy in statistics as a Basketball coach are only part of why he will be remembered. Wooden led by example, following his “Pyramid of Success” as faithfully as he preached it.
I found Ten of the Best quotes by John Wooden and as I looked at them I wondered how well I was applying them and how I could improve. Not only in my business life but also for personal growth.
So here goes:

I purchased this book about a week ago and I am currently reading it. This is not a large book but I am taking my time going through it. Unusual for me, as I am a speed reader and rush through my books. This time I felt the need to really take the time and focus on what Robin had written. In fact, even rereading some chapters.
Today, I had the opportunity to listen to Robin on a Webnair hosted by Richard Robbins. As I was listening, I felt the need to take copious notes and then to write about what I personally was going to do with the material.

Goal Setting – Are you passionate about your goals?
The ability to concentrate and to use your time well is everything if you want to succeed in business–or almost anywhere else for that matter. –Lee Iacocca, Author
The quote from Lee Iacocca, sums it up in one neat sentence. There are two steps to success, one is to know what you want (otherwise known as a goal) and the other is to be able to concentrate and focus on it enough to be able to achieve it.
There is nothing wrong with making mistakes. Every successful business person makes many mistakes but, they also learn how to overcome them. If you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t doing anything! You have to stretch yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Just think about how many times you fell down when you learned how to skate, but you get back up and try again. Remember how fantastic you felt when you finally glided along the ice.
Is it always about winning??
The 2010 Winter Olympics are over, and as a Canadian, I am extremely proud. Not only with our fantastic athletes, but also with the Patriotism that was displayed in every city across Canada. A survey shows that over 90% of Canadians were either extremely satisfied or satisfied with the performance.
I was glued to the Television every night. I discovered some sports that I didn’t know existed. Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross have become two of my favourite venues. Wow, talk about exciting! (more…)
