A while ago, I listened to a live stream presented by BestAgentTV.com. Jason Ryan Dorsey, also known as the Gen Y Guy, talked about how to sell and work with Generation Y. It didn’t take long before I realized that we need to change our approaches when we are dealing with the different generations.

WHO IS GENERATION Y? They were born in 1977-1995 and are the fastest growing demographic in the Workplace and in the Adult Marketplace. This is also the demographic that will be our first time homebuyers.

Networking and Relationship Building

I had started to work on this Blog Posting prior to attending a meeting at Re/Max Ontario-Atlantic Canada Inc. Head Office in Toronto. While there, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to one of the founders, Walter Schneider being interviewed by Coach Ken Goodfellow. It was amazing for me to hear him repeat the words that I had used in my previous post “Selling is a Contact Sport”. We need to get out there and create value.

We have all heard the maxim,

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” This can either work for you or against you, depending on your reputation.

Whenever we deal with someone it is wise to keep the words of Jospeh Hall in mind

“A reputation once broken may possibly be repaired, but the world will always keep their eyes on the spot where the crack was.”

If you always make it a priority to help and give to others ahead of thinking of yourself first, you will be helped in return.

Selling is a Contact Sport

It amazes me that when new Realtors start off on their career, or for that matter anyone that is in a selling profession, that they don’t understand how important relationships are to success.

The ability to build up trust, is in my mind, the most important asset that anyone can have. If you don’t trust someone, it doesn’t really matter what knowledge you have on a subject, you will not be able to build up that all important relationship.
